Manly installation planning

Make the parking space work before choosing the charger

The 2021 Census recorded 76.8% of Manly’s occupied private dwellings as apartments. A home-charging enquiry therefore needs to identify the parking arrangement early—an individual garage, shared basement and street parking each present different practical questions.

Confirm access to a charging space

Send details of the space attached to your property and whether it is shared. If you rely on street parking, tell us at the start: a wall-mounted home charger cannot be assumed to provide a suitable charging arrangement for a car on the road. Do not plan around a lead crossing a public footpath.

Check reach with the car parked

Photograph the car in its normal position with the garage door open and closed. Include its charging-port side, any storage shelves and the pedestrian exit. The most convenient wall is not always the best mounting point once the door, lead storage and walking space are considered.

Include the building’s requirements

For a shared garage, provide the manager’s instructions and any existing EV system details. If alterations to the mounting surface or building exterior need review, resolve that before installation. Electrical3 can then discuss an electrical scope based on the proposed location rather than an assumed one.

Prepare your Manly quote

A useful Manly quote starts with a workable parking location. Call John if you are unsure which space can be used; once the location is established, the estimator helps outline the charger and installation options.

  • Photos of the actual parking space with your vehicle in position.
  • The vehicle model and approximate clearance beside its charging port.
  • Any building restrictions affecting the garage wall, electrical room or cable route.

Can a home charger serve a car parked on the street?

Do not assume a home installation is suitable for street parking. Tell us about your parking situation before ordering. We first need to establish an appropriate charging location and route that does not rely on a lead across public access.

Will the tethered cable reach in a small garage?

That depends on the mounting point, parking direction and vehicle’s port location. Photos with the car parked normally help assess reach without leaving the cable stretched across the exit.

Can you assess an individual lock-up garage in an apartment block?

Yes, the proposed supply and route can be assessed. A lock-up garage does not by itself confirm ownership of the supply or permission for electrical work, so include the building manager’s information.
